2024 dates for Queensland marquee rounds in Townsville, Gold Coast locked in
15th anniversary running of NTI Townsville 500 set for July 5-7 2024
30th anniversary of Supercars on Gold Coast locked in for October 25-27 2024
The Repco Supercars Championship marquee rounds in Townsville and on the Gold Coast will both celebrate major milestones in 2024, with traditional July and October rounds confirmed today.
The announcement that both events supported by the Queensland Government, was made on the grid of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 today by QLD Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey.
The 15th anniversary running of the NTI Townsville 500 will run in the Queensland winter school holiday period from 5-7 July on the famous Reid Park street circuit.
The 2024 event will feature the 39th and 40th races in Townsville by Supercars since the debut round was run in 2009 and a huge line up of off track entertainment and support categories, including the combined Dunlop Super2 and Super3 Series.
The 30th anniversary of Supercars racing on the Gold Coast has also been confirmed, with the 2024 event dates locked in for 25-27 October.
Queensland’s biggest annual sporting event will celebrate Supercars debut on the famous Surfers Paradise street circuit, that debuted as non-championship round as part of the annual Gold Coast Indy in 1994.
Queensland’s Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the Supercars events were some of the biggest on Queensland’s events calendar: “The streets of Townsville and the Gold Coast will again next year be buzzing with the high-octane energy the Supercars bring to town, alone with their legions of dedicated fans.
“The events combined, inject an estimated $90 million into our visitor economy, supporting good Queensland jobs and our tourism and hospitality operators.
“Congratulations to Supercars on reaching two important milestones next year. It’s been terrific to be on the journey with you as we race headlong into another action-packed championship series in 2024.”
Supercars CEO Shane Howard said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating two major milestones for our two marquee rounds in Queensland in 2024.
“Both the Townsville and Gold Coast rounds have become key events on our annual calendar and are favourites of fans and the drivers alike, with door-to-door racing and live music acts providing something for everyone.
“The Gold Coast street circuit is one of the longest running street races in world motorsport and every year more than 20-thousand fans travel from around Australia to join our biggest party of the year.
“We’re proud to celebrate 15 years of delivering North Queensland’s biggest annual sporting event and we know fans are already planning their winter getaways to be a part of the 2024 event.”
“Locked and loaded. Supercars race fans have the dates for 2024 so get on-line, book your accommodation and make plans to be trackside for the best street circuit racing on the planet,” said Acting Gold Coast Mayor Donna Gates.
“I congratulate Supercars, Tourism and Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast for securing our 2024 race dates. It’s our time to shine.”
