  • Broc Feeney reacts to "tough" Tasmania finish

  • Feeney hit by Thomas Randle fighting for third, finishes 15th

  • Feeney now 198 points behind teammate Will Brown

Broc Feeney has labelled his rollercoaster Sunday in Tasmania as his "worst of the year” following a costly clash with Thomas Randle.

Feeney was hit out of third place by Randle in the closing laps of Sunday’s race, which was won by Randle’s teammate Cam Waters.

Randle was penalised and classified 18th, while Feeney came home 15th, having watched several cars pass him by as he lay stationary at the hairpin.

The incident dropped Feeney from 120 to 198 points adrift of teammate Will Brown heading to the enduros, the biggest margin between the teammates all season.

Randle was quick to apologise over the incident after the race, but was turned away from the Triple Eight garage as Feeney had already departed.

Feeney returned with his team as they packed up at Symmons Plains, and speaking on Supercars.com’s Schick Cool Down Lap podcast, said: “Pretty tough day.

"Obviously a bit of a shame at the end there, what was looking like a great day, turned into probably our worst of the year.”

It continued a difficult run for Feeney since Darwin, with the 21-year-old recording results of seventh, seventh, ninth, 11th and 15th since.

Feeney is now 117 points behind Chaz Mostert, and 152 ahead of Waters. Three rounds ago, Mostert was 171 points behind Feeney, and Waters 407 down.

However, with Sandown and Bathurst coming, Feeney isn’t giving up, saying: “We're certainly not out of it by any means. Then you've got 600 points in the next two races.

"I've got all the confidence in the world that we can go to Sandown and Bathurst and certainly have a shot at winning.

“Probably can be a little more aggressive than what we have been and, you know, take a little few more risks than that now.

"I said to the team when I crossed the line, ‘We've got to win the next two to get back in this thing’. So that's certainly the goal.”

Feeney will race with Jamie Whincup, with the duo winning last year's Sandown 500.

The 2024 Repco Supercars will switch to enduro mode at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 on September 13-15. Tickets for the 60th anniversary event are on sale now.
