Already a two-time Bathurst podium-finisher, Brodie Kostecki wants a Great Race win before he sets sail for Dick Johnson Racing in 2025.

Announced ahead of this weekend’s Penrite Oil Sandown 500, Kostecki will swap an Erebus Motorsport Chevrolet for a DJR Ford next season.

For now, the reigning champion has four rounds left in Erebus colours, two of those endurance races alongside Todd Hazelwood.

Kostecki finished third (2021), fourth (2022) and second (2023) alongside David Russell at Mount Panorama, and second at last year’s Sandown 500. Russell has moved on to PremiAir Nulon Racing, with Hazelwood slotting in beside Kostecki in the #1 entry.

While the title is out of reach, Kostecki is still keen to make his presence felt and take out the biggest race of them all, in what would crown a turbulent year and add to Erebus' 2017 triumph.

“It's no secret that the start of this year was probably a very difficult one for myself,” he said at his DJR announcement.

"I'm very much looking forward to the rest of 2024 with my current team, Erebus, we've had such a great history together. Winning a championship, six race wins and 11 poles is something that I'm very proud of.

"To be able to work so closely with those guys, I'm friends with most of the guys on the team, it's a strong bond that we'll always have. I really look forward to going to the enduros and being able to partner up with Todd Hazelwood.

“Hopefully we can get that big Bathurst trophy, that would be really, really cool to send it off. Betty [Klimenko, team owner] really wants that one as well."

While excited for his DJR move, Kostecki said he wasn’t going to go easy on his future employers in the final rounds, adding: "Yeah, no favours for the rest of the year.

"I’m still an Erebus driver and I would really like to send off the rest of the year strong with a couple of big results. So yeah, if there's any red cars in front of me, it'd probably only be red mist.”

Track action at Sandown will commence on Friday, with the Repco Bathurst 1000 set for October 10-13. Tickets for both events are on sale now.
