Cam Waters knows better than most how the enduros can make or break a season, but is hoping he can continue his strong form to “expose” his rivals.

Waters won his third race in his last nine starts on Sunday to keep his faint title hopes alive, emerging victorious in a dramatic Tasmania sprint.

Having been 515 points behind Will Brown after Darwin, Waters is now 350 points adrift with 1200 to win across the next two rounds.

The Tickford Racing driver’s season unravelled in last year’s enduros, with an errant wheel taking him out of contention before co-driver James Moffat crashed out in Bathurst.

Waters knows he can claw back more ground if he continues his strong form, and try to expose the likes of Brown, Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney to title pressure.

“There’s still a lot of racing, the enduros are so important for your championship, they can make or break you,” he said on the broadcast.

“We DNFed nearly both of them last year, so if you win both enduros, you’re in it really.

“Haven’t really been thinking much about the championship, I know it’s going to be a big ask, for sure.

“But if we can stay fast, be aggressive, and expose these other guys, they'll make mistakes, crashes, you never know what might happen at Gold Coast and Adelaide.

“We’ll just stick to what we’re doing right now, seems to be working, we’ve closed the gap a little bit, but still a bit of a gap.”

Feeney is now just 152 points up the road from Waters, with the Triple Eight driver taken out in a late-race clash with Thomas Randle. Feeney, like Waters, knows he has to be aggressive to get back into the fight.

"It's so important leading into the enduros as well, we haven't been good on the Super Soft, but this weekend we've been fast all of the time,” Waters said in PIRTEK Victory Lane.

"We had good race pace all weekend, yesterday we didn't really maximise it, didn't convert it into a result.

"It's nice to bounce back today, get the result that we deserve, get some good points and a bit more momentum going into the enduros."

The 2024 Repco Supercars will switch to enduro mode at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 on September 13-15. Tickets for the 60th anniversary event are on sale now.
