Chaz Mostert frustrated by "dangerous" games in Tasmania
Mostert missed the cut in Symmons Plains qualifying
WAU star to start 11th, behind closest rivals Will Brown and Broc Feeney
Chaz Mostert has raised concerns over “dangerous” games in Tasmania qualifying, as the championship contender missed the cut at Symmons Plains.
Mostert enters Sunday 63 points behind Will Brown, who qualified fourth ahead of teammate Broc Feeney in seventh.
As Tickford Racing drivers locked out the front row in Q3, with Thomas Randle beating Cam Waters, Mostert was forced to watch on after failing to reach the final segment.
Speaking afterwards, the Walkinshaw Andretti United star claimed “gamesmanship” was behind his run, as 20 drivers fought over space around the 2.4km circuit.
"Yeah, a lot of gamesmanship in that one, so very interesting,” he told the broadcast.
"It's just kind of so dangerous, like if someone else was out of sequence, and you're around on a goat track here… no one went at a go point.
"It's not like we could, even in the pack there, decide to pass those guys because, to be honest, they're probably not even looking in the mirror anyway, just going right at 30km/h an hour.
"So, I'm more worried if someone that comes with back of the train and finds someone if they're out of sequence. I think it's pretty crap."
Broc Feeney, who qualified seventh, opted to take to the grass during Q2 as he attempted to get out of his rivals' way.
Mostert was ultimately happier with his speed, but was disappointed to start in the pack for the race, which will get underway 3:05pm AEST.
"Car feels better today, which was good. Just a real messy last run,” he said.
"I'm much happier where we are with the car, but a bit further backwards today. So hopefully make some moves and go forward."
