Repco Bathurst 1000 Street Party to kick off Great Race festivities
Free fan event to feature Track to Town, signing session, PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge Finals, and live TV show
Street Party runs 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday October 9
The 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 is set to kick off with a spectacular street party on Wednesday October 9, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm AEDT in the Bathurst CBD, with a bigger-than-ever offering for fans settling in on the ground and at home for this year’s edition of the Great Race.
The annual NTI Transporter Parade and driver signing session in Bathurst – typically held late morning on Wednesday of the event – has been revised and bolstered by a number of exciting features, and a new evening time slot which will include a TV production broadcast live on Foxtel.
Festivities at the Bathurst Street Party kick off from 5:00pm AEDT, and will be headlined by a Supercars Track to Town, where all 26 Supercars entered in this year's Bathurst 1000 will make the journey from the iconic Mount Panorama Circuit, arriving at the street party on Russell Street at approximately 5:45pm in front of the Bathurst Courthouse.
Prime movers from Supercars team transporters will lead the Supercars through Bathurst, allowing fans of all ages to see the championship’s big rigs after they’ve made the trek to the Mountain.
The Track to Town concept, which was first introduced as part of the Thrifty Bathurst 500 in February and later featured at the Taupō, Darwin, and Townsville events, has quickly become a fan favourite.
Fans will then have the opportunity to meet all 52 drivers competing in the Great Race, with an hour-long signing session scheduled featuring the entire Great Race field.
The live television show from Bathurst begins at 5:30pm, and will include the live broadcast of the PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge Finals, where the top four pit crews from across the 2024 Supercars season will battle it out for the $20,000 prize and the coveted Golden Rattle Gun Trophy.
"It’s fantastic that Foxtel is bringing the best of Bathurst to viewers on the eve of one of the most anticipated events in the world of motorsport,” said Nathan Prendergast, Supercars Head of Broadcast.
“The Bathurst Street Party is going to showcase everything that makes the Bathurst 1000 special, and we’re thrilled to share that with fans both at the Mountain and across the country."
Attendance for the event is free, offering the local community and visiting race fans a chance to be part of the excitement as the Repco Supercars Championship brings the energy of Bathurst 1000 into the heart of the city.
Event and championship naming rights partner Repco will also be on site with its impressive fleet of custom vehicles, and prize raffles and giveaways for fans in attendance.
“The biggest week of our year has just gotten bigger,” said David Sherley, General Manager of Bathurst Regional Council.
“Our in-town parade and signing ahead of the Bathurst 1000 is always a highlight of the year, and with the added attractions of Track to Town, Pit Stop Challenge, and live TV production, the Bathurst Street Party will be the perfect way to kick off the Repco Bathurst 1000.
“Bathurst is incredibly proud to be the home of one of the world’s great motor races in the Bathurst 1000, and we are eagerly looking forward to getting the party started with the Bathurst Street Party come October.”
Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert raved about the upgraded fan event, as he prepares to tackle the Mountain in pursuit of his third Bathurst 1000 win.
“Bathurst is what it is because of the fans, so it’s going to be awesome to bring our Supercars to the fans and get everyone excited for the big week,” Mostert said.
“We always get a huge turnout on the Wednesday, both from Bathurst locals and fans already camped out on the Mountain, which is really cool as a driver. We really feed off of that energy, so with everything we’re adding for this year, it’s going to be an amazing way to kick things off.”
The Bathurst Street Party begins at 5:00pm on Wednesday October 9 on Russell Street in Bathurst CBD. On-track action at the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 begins Thursday October 10, with the Great Race set to take place Sunday October 13.
