The 2024 Dunlop Super2 Series is set for a thrilling conclusion at what are arguably the two toughest events on the calendar.

It has been another highly competitive season in the development series, with five drivers having claimed Boost Mobile Pole Awards in the eight races held this season.

Four drivers have won races this year, whilst nine have stood on the podium in the eight races held.

With 600 points on offer across four races at the Repco Bathurst 1000 and VAILO Adelaide 500, three drivers have emerged as the genuine championship contenders.

Reigning Super2 champion Kai Allen has been the class of the field this season, starting with three wins on the bounce to kickstart his title defence.

Allen also claimed victory in Race 6 at Townsville, carrying a 50% winning record into Bathurst, as well as the round win at the Bathurst 500 and runner-up round results in Perth and Townsville.

As a result of his stunning form to start the season, Allen is head and shoulders above the rest of the drivers to have competed in every round of the season so far, with an average finish of 3.25.

The Eggleston Motorsport driver takes a 126-point buffer into the Repco Bathurst 1000 support races, and is chasing a place in history at the finale in Adelaide.

Should he secure the 2024 title, Allen will become the fourth driver to win two Super2 crowns, joining Dean Canto, Steve Owen, and Paul Dumbrell.

Allen would also become the first driver to secure back-to-back titles, and at 19 years old would be the youngest to achieve two championships, Canto having been 25, Owen 35, and Dumbrell 32 when they won their second titles.

However, Allen will have to fend off opposition from Zach Bates and Aaron Cameron should he defend his crown before joining the main game with Grove Racing in 2025.

Bates has been in resurgent form for Walkinshaw Andretti United, and has the most round wins for the season having claimed round honours in Perth and Sandown.

Bates has the best average qualifying position in the field at 3.625, but has been hurt by two costly incidents at Bathurst and Townsville.

Contact with Cooper Murray in Race 2 at Bathurst saw Bates demoted to 21st after receiving a 15-second penalty, whilst in Race 5 at Townsville he was an innocent victim in a first lap melee, and soldiered on to 19th with a damaged car.

The Sandown round win has seen the Canberran jump to second in the Super2 standings, having gained 27 points on Allen over the course of the weekend.

Bates showed plenty of speed at Bathurst in February, got his first podium on the mountain last October, and also showed plenty of potential in Adelaide to cap off his rookie campaign in 2023.

Kelly Racing's Aaron Cameron has arguably been the biggest surprise of the 2024 Super2 Series, showing remarkable consistency that has kept him right in the frame for most of the season.

Tackling his first full season in the development series, Cameron finished in the top five in each of the first five races of the season, with his only non-top ten being a 12th in Race 6 at Townsville.

The 24-year-old Melburnian finished second in Race 1 at Bathurst, and also finished second for the round, and also has previous experience at Adelaide having competed there in his half-season cameo last year.

Cameron is only 18 points behind Bates for second in the standings, and is 144 points behind Allen, with 150 points on offer in every Super2 race this season.

The penultimate round of the 2024 Dunlop Series takes place at the Repco Bathurst 1000 from October 10-13. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
