Dick Johnson Racing is set to run a tribute to the late Wayne Cattach on its Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustangs at the upcoming round in Tasmania.

Former Supercars CEO Cattach is being mourned Thursday, following the news of the experienced businessman and sports administrator's passing.

Cattach held senior positions at Shell in Australia, the United Kingdom and South America before shifting to motorsport.

In the early 1990s, Shell Australia then asked Cattach to assist DJR. He joined the Ford team as its CEO in 1992, and helped DJR return to the heights of the Australian Touring Car Championship.

Under Cattach, DJR won the 1994 Bathurst 500 with Johnson and John Bowe, and the 1995 championship with Bowe.

Cattach joined Supercars as CEO alongside Chairman Tony Cochrane at the turn of the century, and spent nearly a decade in the job before helping DJR through financial hardship.

In a Supercars statement, Supercars CEO Shane Howard said Cattach's legacy will be honoured at next week’s NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint.

The DJR Fords of Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale are also set to carry tributes to Cattach, with Johnson hailing the impact of his "true friend."

"As CEO of DJR, he changed our team. As CEO of V8 Supercars, he changed our sport," Supercars Hall of Famer Johnson said in a statement.

"He was a dear friend. Jillie and I share our heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends. But most of all, today of all days, I have tremendous gratitude to a bloke who changed my life. Someone who came from outside motorsport to truly become a cornerstone of it.

"In Tasmania, our Mustangs will pay tribute to the memory of Wayne Cattach, a fellow former Nasho; a great man, fearless leader and true friend."

The NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint takes place from August 16-18 at Symmons Plains Raceway. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
