A costly collision with Erebus Motorsport rookie Cooper Murray late in Sunday’s Sydney finale was the cherry on top of a luckless weekend for Broc Feeney.

Triple Eight star Feeney, who suffered a puncture while running second on Friday, and was beaten to victory by 0.03s on Saturday, needed a big Sunday to get back on track.

A third consecutive front row and strong start had Feeney in good stead, but a failed challenge on Cam Waters saw teammate Will Brown get by through Turn 5.

Feeney was running third late in the race when, after the second stops, encountered Murray — who hadn’t yet taken his second stop — towards the end of the lap.

Murray defended and escorted Feeney off at Turn 10, allowing Chaz Mostert past. Feeney then got down the inside and sent Murray into a spin.

The Erebus driver labelled the clash “unfortunate” in a team video, while the incident frustrated Feeney, who said: "I actually got a really good start. I had a bit of a lead into Turn 1 and got pushed back to third.

"In the last stint we were just running around in a comfortable third and was passing someone who was pretty much three quarters of a lap down, out of sync and just completely ran me off the road.

"Just got caught up in someone else's incident.”

Brodie Kostecki dropped Feeney to fifth in the closing laps, but the Triple Eight driver suggested he shouldn’t have been there in the first place, given the Murray clash.

Feeney continued: “It dropped me back to fourth and then the rain came and dropped back another spot. It probably should have been another podium today except for someone's stupid mistake at the end of the day and cost me quite dearly.

"I'm just hoping top have a little bit more luck at the next couple of rounds, I’ve just had a couple of things not go my way.”

Waters claimed a perfect 315-point weekend score, and will carry a 60-point lead over Brown to the next round in Melbourne. Mostert and Feeney are third and fourth, 65 and 99 points down.

The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Melbourne SuperSprint, which will feature at the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025 on March 13-16.
