Dominant Cam Waters matches Shane van Gisbergen feat
Waters won all three races, claimed fastest lap bonus points
Van Gisbergen first achieved feat at 2022 Tailem Bend round
Wet or dry, day or night, Cam Waters was peerless at the Thrifty Sydney 500 - Opening Round.
The Tickford Racing driver won from pole position on all three days of the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, also the first round of the Repco Sprint Cup.
Under new 2025 rules, fastest lap bonus points will be on offer for all races at every sprint round, provided the driver finishes in the top 15.
Waters clocked the fastest lap in all three races, taking home the maximum 65 points on Friday, and 125 on Saturday and Sunday.
The 30-year-old became just the second driver in Supercars history after Shane van Gisbergen to score the maximum 315 points, since the bonus points were brought in in 2021.
Van Gisbergen won all three races at The Bend Motorsport Park in 2022, also scored a maximum 315 points given he set the fastest lap in all three of those races.
As it were, van Gisbergen won the finale in wet conditions, passing and beating Waters home.
"How awesome is that? That's such a mega weekend, and such an awesome way to start 2025," Waters said.
"I thought we were going to have fast cars this weekend, but not that fast. It's awesome to be able to convert it when you've actually got a fast car. I can't thank my team enough for giving me something this good, and the pit stops were good, and we executed well.
"I knew they were going to be lying to me [about the weather], they always do. I had a really good margin there, and I could kind of back it off with five to go and just bring it home
."Even when it was kind of a little bit wet at the end there, the car was still really fast. The rain was actually quite nice, it cooled the cabin temps down a little bit, it was pretty hot in this Monster Mustang."
Waters will carry a 60-point lead over reigning champion Will Brown to the next round in Melbourne. Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney are third and fourth, 65 and 99 points down.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Melbourne SuperSprint, which will feature at the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025 on March 13-16.
