  • Chaz Mostert named as late entrant for March 7-8 event in Sydney

  • Will Brown, Brodie Kostecki to lead Team Australia Supercars

Chaz Mostert has been named as a late entrant to take on Supercars stars Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki at the upcoming 2025 Race Of Champions.

Two-time Bathurst winner Mostert will be a replacement for Swedish star Mattias Ekström, who has had to withdraw from the event on medical grounds.

The 24-time Supercars race winner will join seven-time Rallycross World Champion Johan Kristoffersson in a Team All Stars combination for the ROC Nations Cup event, which will be held at Sydney's Accor Stadium.

Mostert is the second ring-in for the March 7-8 event, with FIA Asia Pacific Rally Champion Alister McRae will be a direct replacement for his son Max.

McRae junior was set to make his Race Of Champions debut before injuring his wrist in the first round of the British Rally Championship last weekend. Alister will replace Max at Team Great Britain, and will partner with former F1 star David Coulthard.

Host nation Australia will have two teams, led by 2024 Supercars champion Brown and 2023 Supercars champion and 2024 Bathurst winner Brodie Kostecki in Team Australia Supercars.

Team Australian Off-Road will be led by rally ace Molly Taylor and two-time Dakar winner Toby Price. Mostert’s inclusion takes the Australian contingent to five.

“The Race Of Champions is such an iconic event and I was quite envious of everyone who was announced in the original line-up,” Mostert said.

“The call to replace Mattias Ekström came from left field, but it was a pretty cool call to receive. I feel sorry for Mattias that he cannot make the trip to defend his Champion of Champions trophy and shoot for a record fifth title, but hopefully I can do the new-look All Stars team justice.

“Johan is obviously an incredible driver with seven world rallycross titles to his name and I am looking forward to teaming with him in the ROC Nations Cup.

“Saturday is going to be a bit surreal racing head-to-head with legends the likes of [Sebastian] Vettel, Coulthard, Sebastien [Loeb] and Kurt Busch, but I cannot wait to get out there and give the local Australian crowd some extra to cheer about.”

There will now be eight countries and nine nationalities represented in the ROC Nations Cup on Friday night — two Australia teams, Germany, France, Norway, Great Britain, New Zealand, USA, Finland and the new All Stars line-up.

The 20 participating drivers will represent their respective countries/team in the ROC Nations Cup on Friday, before they go head-to-head for the individual Champion of Champions crown on Saturday night. Tickets to the event are on sale now.

Brown and Mostert are second and third in the Supercars standings heading to the next round in Melbourne.
