Who's safe, who's on the bubble, and who's in trouble after Round 2 in Melbourne

There has been change at the top and in the fight for the all-important 10th place, with Will Brown taking the points lead at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint.

Brown topped the weekend point score at Albert Park to win a second straight Larry Perkins Trophy, and benefited from a challenging weekend for Cam Waters to jump ahead.

The reigning champion turned a 60-point deficit into a seven-point lead, which is the smallest margin between first and second after Round 2 since the 300-point era began in 2008.

Importantly, all 10 drivers in the Finals have their championship points reset, with standings from the regular season then defining the regular season bonus points. As it stands, Brown would earn a buffer by winning the Repco Sprint Cup.

Brown, Waters and Broc Feeney are all 100 (in in the top two's case, 200) points above the cut-line, which is occupied by Matt Stone Racing driver Nick Percat.

Only 10 drivers will be eligible for the Finals based on championship points from the regular season, which is all 27 races up to and including Bathurst, and 'Cup' winning eligibility.

Percat was 17th after Sydney, but claimed two podiums in Melbourne to jump to 10th. The 2011 Bathurst winner, remarkably, is level on points with 11th-placed Andre Heimgartner.

Percat is ahead courtesy of a higher race finish; Percat finished second behind teammate Cameron Hill in Race 5, while Heimgartner's current best is a fifth, recorded in the same race.

Hill is 21 points ahead of Percat, but only 60 points ahead of 13th-placed Will Brown. Hill is five points ahead of Thomas Randle, and 57 points ahead of 12th-placed Ryan Wood.

For the purposes of this exercise, Matt Stone Racing wildcard Cameron Crick has been omitted, given only primary drivers are eligible for the Finals.

The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume in New Zealand at the ITM Taupō Super 440 on April 11-13. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
