General Motors is set to name a new Supercars homologation squad in "coming weeks" following meetings with teams at the 2025 season opener.

Chevrolet is currently represented in Supercars by Triple Eight, Erebus Motorsport, Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, Brad Jones Racing and Team 18.

Last week, GM Australia and NZ boss Jess Bala and Chevrolet Racing general manager Chris Payne briefed the media to affirm the brand’s ongoing commitment to Supercars.

Bala and Payne remained in Sydney and met with GM teams to discuss next steps, with GM evaluating teams against a 21-point score.

Ultimately, a new homologation team is officially appointed based on a majority vote among teams from the relevant brand. Then, the decision is signed off.

Speaking in Sydney, Bala explained: "We’ve got an extensive criteria list that we’re going through and we’ve had extensive conversations with all our teams already, including over the weekend here at SMP.

"We’re looking at everything across the board, whether it’s obviously performance, the team itself, culture, what they’re working towards, what they’ve got available from a resource standpoint, a long-term plan as well as a mid-term plan.

"We’re hoping to make that decision and announce something within the coming weeks.”

GM could also be faced with the unusual situation of essentially going up against Toyota, which is also hunting for a second team to join Walkinshaw Andretti United in 2026.

Team 18 has been linked to a Toyota switch amid its obvious ties to the brand’s forklifts arm.

GM has already ruled out poaching a team from Ford in the short-term, with the brand instead lining up a team of either Erebus, MSR, PremiAir, BJR or Team 18.

Bala added: “We’re very committed to our existing Chevy Racing teams and want to appoint someone from in-house.”

Triple Eight has been GM's homologation team in Supercars since replacing the Holden Racing Team, then run by Walkinshaw, in 2017.

The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Melbourne SuperSprint, which will feature at the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025 on March 13-16.
