  • Matt Stone Racing driver finished third and first in two races

  • Broc Feeney, Will Brown within six points of MSR driver

Cameron Hill is a surprise leader in the race for the Larry Perkins Trophy after claiming his maiden Supercars race win at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint.

Heading into Saturday, the Matt Stone Racing driver has a slender lead over Thursday race winner Broc Feeney, with 2024 Larry Perkins Trophy winner Will Brown just one point further back.

The scene is set for a thrilling battle for overall weekend honours, with championship leader Cam Waters and Brodie Kostecki just 35 points back with two Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions and two races to come.

The highest point-scorer of the Albert Park weekend is awarded the Larry Perkins Trophy, named after the six-time Bathurst 1000 winner, who also made starts in Formula 1.

Hill charged into pole position for the Perkins Trophy after controlling Friday's race, having taken the lead from pole-sitter Feeney at Turn 1.

MSR teammate Nick Percat made it a shock quinella for the Yatala squad, with Brown benefiting from a late error from Feeney to finish third. Had Feeney not made his mistake, he would be level on points with Hill, with Brown 11 points back.

Waters has claimed a brace of sixth place finishes to sit fourth ahead of 2023 Larry Perkins Trophy winner Kostecki.

"Myself, Cam, Broc and Nick all really in the fight for the Larry Perkins Trophy," Brown said.

"[Saturday] will be interesting in qualifying. It's an awesome trophy to win, I won it last year and I'd love to win it again.

"But these guys [MSR] are obviously right up there as well, so tomorrow, there'll be a lot of pressure on qualifying."

Supercars will return to the track on Saturday morning for dual Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions from 9:05am local time, with Race 6 to commence at 5:40pm.
