No panic at Team 18 amid luckless David Reynolds start
Reynolds sits 22nd overall of 24 full-time drivers after Round 2
It marks Reynolds' second worst start through two rounds since 2013
Team 18 Team Principal Adrian Burgess has vowed to lift David Reynolds off the canvas amid a start to the season the 2017 Bathurst winner labelled his "worst."
Reynolds' 2025 results read 15th, 22nd, 22nd, 17th, 23rd and 17th through Sydney and Melbourne.
On paper, it's Reynolds' second worst start to a Supercars season after 2013, when he left Round 2 in 25th overall with 21% of the championship leader's points.
The TRADIE Energy Camaro driver is currently 22nd overall, with 24% of points leader Will Brown's haul.
"I’ve had six races all year and five of them have been complete disasters with crashes, mechanical dramas and everything under the sun that's happened," Reynolds said.
"It's the worst start of any championship I've been in, so Taupō can’t come quick enough to get the monkey off my back."
It's in stark contrast to the fortunes of recruit Anton De Pasquale, who sits seventh overall. Only Brown, De Pasquale and Cam Waters have finished all six races in the top 10.
Speaking after Sunday's abandoned race, Burgess insisted Reynolds knows how to get the job done; rather, the veteran driver simply needs some luck.
“We’ve just got to get Davey back on track,” Burgess told Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast.
“We’ve just got to give him a good clean weekend and start getting some runs on the board for him.
“I think it's the black cat and the ladder at the same time. Look, he knows he can do it. We know he can do it.
“We’ve just got to be calm, not overreact, not try and look for things that aren't there, just build a good car, give them a good set-up.
“We’re not panicking. We're not worrying and then nor should I.”
Team 18 will resume its 2025 campaign in New Zealand at the ITM Taupō Super 440 on April 11-13. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
De Pasquale won the Jason Richards Trophy last year while racing for Dick Johnson Racing.
