Supercars team owner and drag racer Peter Xiberras has announced he will take a break from his own Top Fuel program.

Xiberras, who owns PremiAir Racing, confirmed Monday he will sit out the rest of the current National Drag Racing Championships Top Fuel season.

The announcement comes just weeks after Xiberras took victory in Perth.

Xiberras has competed in Top Fuel racing for over a decade, and is a two-time national champion.

In 2022, Xiberras expanded into Supercars, purchasing Tekno Autosports and renaming it as PremiAir Racing.

The team currently fields two Chevrolet Camaros for James Golding and Richie Stanaway, with the Gold Coast-based squad encountering a challenging start to its 2025 campaign.

PremiAir has also been widely touted to become General Motors’ next homologation team in Supercars, with Triple Eight Race Engineering shifting to Ford from 2026.

Xiberras insisted it was not a retirement announcement, but said he had a "number of work and personal priorities” that required his focus.

“This is definitely not a retirement announcement, but I have a number of work and personal priorities that mean I cannot give drag racing the focus I need to perform at my best for the rest of this season,” Xiberras said.

“I’m taking the next few months to assess where I’m at for next season. I had an amazing race meeting when we won the Westernationals, so I’m going into this next period with that experience front of mind.

“I love the racing, I love the rivalries, and I’m very positive about the future of drag racing in Australia.”

Xiberras’ Supercars squad will resume its 2025 campaign in New Zealand on April 11-13.
