Race 7 abandoned amid heavy rain in Melbourne
Race started behind Safety Car, before it was suspended after two laps
Will Brown clinches Larry Perkins Trophy after Saturday win
Heavy rainfall has led to the abandonment of the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint finale, helping Will Brown clinch a second consecutive Larry Perkins Trophy.
Race 7 began amid heavy rain, which intensified after the race commenced behind the Safety Car.
Cars completed two laps behind the Safety Car before red flags were displayed.
No points or results will be awarded, given 50% of the race was not completed by the race leader.
The drama began before lights out, with Thomas Randle pulling over on pit straight with a small fire breaking out in his cockpit. The suspected electrical fire was put out, with Randle starting from 12th.
With rain continuing to lash Albert Park, the race started behind the control of the Safety Car, with Broc Feeney leading the field away. However, the field only completed two laps before the race was suspended.
The rain eased as cars remained in pit lane, but with time certain approaching, officials opted to abandon the race.
It ensured Brown clinched a second straight Larry Perkins Trophy, having led the overall weekend points over Feeney and Cameron Hill after Saturday's race.
"I definitely lucked into it this year to be honest," Brown said.
"We had a very poor qualifying for this race, and I'm sorry to all the fans that have come out and watching on TV, we wanted to put on a show, but there were so many puddles out there.
"At 80km/h you were nearly on the limit around Turn 5 and some of those corners that have puddles, so disappointing for everyone watching, but ultimately the conditions were really bad out there.
"I'm really excited to win the Larry Perkins Trophy again, I drove with Jack Perkins for three years, I know Larry quite well, so very honoured to win that one. Not the way we want to win it, but overall a really good weekend for Red Bull Ampol Racing."
Brown will carry a seven-point lead over Tickford Racing star Cam Waters to the next round in New Zealand, with Feeney 49 points down in third.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume in New Zealand at the ITM Taupō Super 440 on April 11-13. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
