Ryan Walkinshaw has labelled the arrival of new partner TWG Motorsports as an "exciting opportunity" for Walkinshaw Andretti United.

TWG Motorsports, led by CEO Dan Towriss, has taken over from Andretti Global as it readies a 2026 Formula 1 entry with Cadillac.

In recent months, TWG has absorbed Andretti Global's Cadillac F1 project, as well as its IndyCar, Supercars (WAU) teams, NASCAR (Spire Motorsports) and sportscar (Wayne Taylor Racing) teams.

TWG Motorsports comes under the TWG Global umbrella, and has interests in the likes of Chelsea Football Club and Los Angeles Dodges.

TWG is now in the WAU family with Walkinshaw and United Autosport, co-owned by McLaren Racing boss Zak Brown and Richard Dean.

Speaking in Melbourne, WAU co-owner Walkinshaw said TWG brings "shared values" in the quest to win championships.

“I think it’s a really exciting opportunity for us, to be honest,” Walkinshaw said.

“Obviously we had a great relationship with Michael [Andretti] personally, he’s been a close friend of mine, but things change.

“Going forward, having a company like TWG, they have a great pedigree, an enormous portfolio now of motorsport and they’re about to go racing in the greatest racing category on the planet in Formula 1 with category.

“[It’s] amazing to have these guys onboard, great partnership so far, Dan has been amazing to work with, as have his team.

“Our values align, we’ve all got strong ambitions to continue to invest and grow this team and try and win championships. I think when you’ve got those shared values and shared goals it’s easy to work with people.”

Towriss visited the WAU garage at Albert Park, and went for a hot lap with star driver Chaz Mostert. Speaking to media, Towriss said he "loved" what the team was doing with its Supercars program, which includes its blockbuster switch to Toyota from 2026.

When asked about his role in WAU, Towriss said: “Definitely taking over from the TWG Motorsports standpoint.

“Just want to support the team, bring all the resources that we have from the TWG standpoint to support this team.

“We love what they’re doing with Supercars and we just want to support it.”

On Supercars, Towriss added: “It’s definitely new for me. A lot of time spent in Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, so Supercars is new. These guys are great teachers, so we’re learning a lot.”

WAU drivers Mostert and Ryan Wood are fourth and 12th, and the team third, heading to the ITM Taupō Super 440 on April 11-13. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
