Cam Waters has continued his blistering form at the Thrifty Sydney 500 - Opening Round, claiming provisional pole position in Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 2 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship.

Waters will be the last car to roll out in the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout after setting a 1:28.8998s in the second portion of qualifying, and being the only driver to break into the 1:28's in the session.

On a warm day at Sydney Motorsport Park, the Tickford spearhead said that track conditions could play a big role in deciding who claims the Boost Mobile Pole Award in this afternoon's Shootout.

The big story from Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 2 was the clumsy inter-team collision between Aaron Love and James Courtney that saw the two Blanchard Racing Team Mustangs come to blows as they rolled out of pit lane.

There were differing opinions from the two drivers as to whether or not Courtney was scheduled to pass Love on the roll-out lap, but the incident saw Courtney's Boost Mobile Qualifying come to an end before it truly began.

The shortened session threw a spanner in the works for the run plans of several teams, with the likes of Jack Le Brocq, David Reynolds, Cooper Murray, and Kai Allen all knocked out in the opening part of qualifying.

Ford swept the top six in Qualifying 1, led by Walkinshaw Andretti United's Chaz Mostert on a 1:29.4272s, followed by Cam Waters, Brodie Kostecki, Matt Payne, Ryan Wood, and Will Davison.

Qualifying 2's high-profile elimination was Brodie Kostecki, who complained of a lack of rear grip on his final run, whilst Dick Johnson Racing teammate also missed the cut. Davison will start 13th, whilst Kostecki will start in 16th.

There was a flurry of times late in the session as Anton De Pasquale, Jaxon Evans, and Nick Percat all ran slightly off sequence, with Percat and Evans both less than a tenth of a second away from making the Shootout.

Broc Feeney finished provisional second behind Waters, with Matt Payne, Chaz Mostert, Will Brown, Thomas Randle, Andre Heimgartner, Bryce Fullwood, Ryan Wood, and Cameron Hill completing the Shootout order.

"Definitely paying attention to the conditions," Waters said.

"Temperature, the wind, the cloud cover, it affects the car so much. You've got to stay on top of that for sure.

"I'm kind of lucky, my car has been really good in all conditions so far."

The Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout will begin at 4:35pm this afternoon, before Race 2 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship begins at 7:30pm local time.
