April Fool's Day has once again reached Supercars, with a number of teams getting in on the annual April 1 custom of practical jokes and hoaxes.

Teams have tried to catch out unwitting punters in recent years, from David Reynolds driving an amphibious Penrite Supercar to Scott McLaughlin making an immediate move to NASCAR, Cam Waters shifting to bull riding, and Thomas Randle giving up racing for piano.

Tickford Racing joined the online fun this morning with an April Fool’s gag, joking that its container, as well as that of rival Triple Eight Race Engineering, was lost overboard en route to New Zealand.

It comes as all 24 Supercars and team equipment set sail for New Zealand for next weekend's ITM Taupō Super 440.

"During transit to New Zealand, our container was lost overboard at 10:40am this morning. We are assessing the situation and working through recovery options, with our focus firmly set on making it to Taupō next week," the Tickford post reads.

Triple Eight, Matt Stone Racing and Walkinshaw Andretti United got in on the gag, the latter commenting: "She’ll be right!"

Taupō itself got in on the action, claiming drivers will race in reverse direction.

"We’re excited to announce that on the 1st of April, next week’s Supercars round will be run in the opposite direction," Taupō International Motorsport Park posted to its social channels.

"That’s right — drivers will tackle the track clockwise instead of the usual anti-clockwise layout, completely changing braking points, overtaking zones, and race strategy.

"Teams are already scrambling to adjust their setups, and drivers are revising their racing lines. Will this shake up the championship standings? Only time will tell."

Team 18, meanwhile, joked that fans could rent a Supercar, posting: "Ready to feel the need for speed? Rent a Supercar for just $99/day!

"You read that right… Drive a 2025 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 like a real race car driver! Available ONLY on April 1st, 2025. Starting from just $99/day. Apply for the ultimate track experience!

"Okay, you got us. April Fools! As much as we’d love to hand you the keys to a supercar, this one’s just for laughs. Happy April Fools Day."

Scott Taylor Motorsport, meanwhile, joked the the veteran eponymous team owner would make his Super2 debut at the upcoming round in Tasmania, alongside driver Nash Morris.

Morris is racing a fourth Tickford Racing-prepared Ford Mustang in the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series.

"Scott Taylor will make his Supercars racing debut in the next round of the Super2 Series at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania next month," STM posted.

"Having competed in Carrera Cup, Australian GT, Superutes, Aussie Racing Cars and more, Taylor has long-held an ambition to race in an official Supercars event. It will be a one-off drive for the veteran, driving a second STM Ford Mustang.

"He will use the #2222 – the first time four numbers have been used in Supercars competition – while regular STM team driver Nash Morris will continue his title attack in his #222 Mustang."

The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the ITM Taupō Super 440 on April 11-13. Tickets are on sale now.
