Will Brown's extended championship lead is currently subject to an investigation into alleged pit lane speeding.

The #1 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet crossed the line eighth in Sunday's ITM Taupō Super 440 finale, which was taken out by Ford rival Matt Payne.

Brown extended his lead over Cam Waters from 12 to 34 points in the race, with Waters racing from 12th from 18th.

The chasing pack has closed up, however, with Payne 46 points back. Feeney is fourth, 61 points behind, with Chaz Mostert 86 points down in fifth.

Brown is, though, set to be investigated by stewards over pit lane speed, leaving the results as preliminary.

Race Control advised that Brown had been noted over pit lane speed at his second pit stop, with the incident referred post-race.

The pit lane speed limit in Supercars is 40km/h. Drivers who exceed the limit can receive time penalties or a fine, which in this case, will be handed out post-race.

"But I think we captured pretty much the most points we could with what we had. Starting from 12th in that race," he said.

"I sort of made a mistake when I pitted, the guys weren't ready and it was probably a bit too early, so I had to manage the tires a lot for the stints home.

"I think it didn't impact our race overall too badly but still it definitely did hurt us. So a little bit disappointing.

"The bumping I sort of got out of it because of when I pitted, but I did on the first stint see cars running into each other and thought that you know I might have come out with some damage but I was pretty lucky to get away with it."

Brown isn't the only driver under investigation post-race, as a late-race incident between Will Davison (who finished ninth) and Ryan Wood (11th) is also being investigated, the latter having earlier copped a five-second penalty following a lap 1 run-in with Brodie Kostecki.

The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 on May 9-11. Tickets are on sale now.
