Bathurst, Bend museums celebrate Peter Brock

Historic Peter Brock cars will be on display at Mount Panorama and The Bend, as motorsport remembers the late champion.

September 8 marks the 20th anniversary of Brock’s passing at the age of 61, following an accident in Western Australia.

Bathurst's National Motor Racing Museum, held at the foot of Mount Panorama, will run a special exhibition.

A statue of Brock atop his iconic 1984 Bathurst-winning VK Commodore sits out the front of the Bathurst museum, which will have a series of special cars on display.

In that display includes that famous 1984 Commodore, which was dubbed last of the ‘Big Bangers’.

The display also welcomes Brock’s 1979 Round Australia Trial winning VB Commodore, the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour-winning Monaro, and the 1994 VP Commodore that helped Brock to the Holden Racing Team’s first Australian Touring Car Championship round win.

A replica of Brock’s first race car, the Austin A30, is also on display.

National Motor Racing Museum entry is free on Tuesday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The exhibition runs through to the end of the December School Holidays.

The Bend Motorsport Park’s Welcome Centre will also display a Holden Torana A9X raced by Brock in 1978 alongside Craig Lowndes’ 1998 Holden Commodore VT, as well as the Peter Brock Trophy.

The Torana is part of a special display at The Bend, which includes a series of cars across iconic and modern eras of the sport. The 11 cars have a combined worth of more than $12 million.

The Bend exhibition will be formally unveiled on Wednesday September 9, and will be open across this weekend’s event to Grandstand ticket holders and above.
