Ahead of the 25th anniversary season of the Dunlop Super2 Series, Supercars.com takes a look at some of the key talking points ahead of the 2025, continuing with several teams either expanding or joining the category.
The confirmation of a 23-car entry for the opening round of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series in Sydney has confirmed that the make-up of the development series this year will look vastly different to 2024.
Five teams will run expanded efforts from their 2024 campaigns (though one team will miss the opening round), whilst two Repco Supercars Championship teams return to full-time Super2 competition.
Fresh off securing the 2024 Super2 Series teams' championship, Eggleston Motorsport have upped the ante in 2025, expanding from four to five cars, the most amount of cars any team will run across both tiers of Supercars this year.
Jordyn Sinni is the only driver to remain at Eggleston year-on-year in the #54 Commodore, with reigning champion Zach Bates (car #1), reigning Super2 champion Cody Burcher (#36), Elliott Cleary (#38), and Bradi Owen (#88) completing the line-up.
Having run three cars in 2024, Tickford Autosport have expanded to a four-car squad after building up a new Mustang in 2024.
Lochie Dalton and Rylan Gray stay on, and will also be making wildcard appearances in the Repco Supercars Championship in a third Tickford entry, whilst Reuben Goodall and Nash Morris join the Super2 program.
Privateer entrants Anderson Motorsport have also expanded their operations after securing a second ex-DJR Mustang, and will field an all-rookie line-up.
Teenager Ryan Tomsett replaces Max Vidau in the #17, whilst Kiwi Porsche Sprint Challenge and speedway ace Ayrton Hodson steps up with his personal number #28.
Image Racing are another team that have expanded this year, with a three car Commodore assault, two of which running under the Image banner and the Erebus Academy entry of Jobe Stewart.
2024 Super2 rookie of the year Jarrod Hughes is joined by 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup champion Max Geoghegan in the #53 Commodore, with Geoghegan utilising an ex-Will Brown Erebus chassis.
The single car entries of Gomersall Motorsport and Walker Racing have effectively been swapped out by Triple Eight's two-car assault which has leased the Commodore chassis' used in 2024, though the Gomersall chassis is out of commission after Goodall's enormous crash in Adelaide last year.
After Jack Perkins' highly successful two-round cameo in Townsville and Perth last year, Blanchard Racing Team return in a full-time capacity, with TCR race winner and former Erebus junior Bailey Sweeny to pilot the #33 Mustang.
Although they are missing from the grid in Sydney, Matt Chahda Motorsport could run as many as three cars this season, having agreed to run James Masterton's Mustang on a lease deal, and also securing another ex-Tickford Mustang to join their ex-Brad Jones Racing Commodore.
The remainder of the grid remains status quo in terms of amount of entries, with Walkinshaw Andretti United and BJR running two Commodores apiece, and Kelly Racing returning with a two horse Mustang attack.
Tickets for the season-opening round in Sydney, on February 21-23, are on sale now.
