Shane van Gisbergen has won a drama-filled race in Darwin, which saw Lee Holdsworth taken to hospital and a number of cars crash out during a chaotic opening lap.
The Red Bull racer led Winton winner Tim Slade by 1.5665sec, with teammate Craig Lowndes home third.
“Amazing day, the car’s been awesome … great to come back with a win today,” van Gisbergen said.
It was on from lights out at Hidden Valley, with Holdsworth tapped into the wall at turn four, his Preston Hire Commodore destroyed. He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with a leg injury and no head injuries.
Scott Pye was the next victim, stopped on track and triggering another safety car on lap 10. David Reynolds, deemed to be involved, will be investigated post-race.
After the restart, Craig Lowndes handed the lead to van Gisbergen after running wide at turn one and after an error yesterday the Red Bull racer did not falter.
