The approaching Supercars milestones in 2021

Several drivers will mark the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship with some impressive personal milestones.

There will be no shortage of old heads on the grid, despite the new season featuring six drivers aged 23 or younger.

Just one driver, Tickford veteran James Courtney, heads into the 2021 season aged 40 or higher.

However, the 2010 series champion isn't the most experienced driver on the grid with regards to race starts.

The one who is, however, will reach two very important milestones this year, one of which will come at the championship's most iconic venue.

Triple Eight's dynamic duo

The 2021 season will feature some remarkable milestones for Triple Eight's two drivers, with Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen set to bring up incredible numbers.

Both drivers will mark October's Repco Bathurst 1000 with personal milestones, with Whincup to reach 250 round starts, and van Gisbergen 200.

Both drivers made their championship debuts as teenagers - Whincup at the 2002 Queensland 500 for Garry Rogers Motorsport, and van Gisbergen at Oran Park in 2007 for Team Kiwi Racing.

Whincup will also begin 2021 just 27 races shy of 550 race starts, and is just 11 short of 100 pole positions.

Should van Gisbergen enjoy a dominant season, he can bring up 50 career wins. He needs 10 more to reach the mark, and would need to improve on his career-best season haul of eight (2016) should he get there this year.

Fantastic Frosty

A mainstay on the grid since 2004, Mark Winterbottom is also eyeing some big personal milestones in 2021.

Currently on 238 round starts, the 2015 champion is set to bring up 250 at the Gold Coast season finale. He will join Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander, Jason Bright, Rick Kelly, Russell Ingall and Whincup on the list, with the latter to reach the mark at Bathurst.

The Team 18 driver is also closing on 550 race starts, entering the 2021 season with 528.

The 39-year-old made his championship debut for Stone Brothers Racing at the 2003 Sandown 500, the year he won the development series title for the team.

Todd's ton

Todd Hazelwood is still only 25 years old, but he will reach some numbers fitting of respectable experience in 2021.

The Brad Jones Racing driver will start his 50th round at The Bend, and is just six races short of 100 career race starts.

He made his championship debut as a wildcard for Matt Stone Racing at Queensland Raceway in 2017.

Anton raises the bat

All three of Anton De Pasquale's championship campaigns have come with Erebus Motorsport following his 2018 debut on the streets of Adelaide.

The Dick Johnson Racing recruit will record his 50th round start in Townsville, and is just 11 short of 100 career races.

Fab's 450

Fabian Coulthard enters his maiden season with Team Sydney on 440 career races.

He recorded his 200th round start at The Bend last year, marking the milestone with a stunning victory in Race 25, which Supercars.com listed as the best race of 2020.

Veterans to hit 350

Tim Slade and David Reynolds will both record their 350th career race starts in 2021.

Returning Kelly Grove Racing veteran Reynolds is five short of the milestone, while Blanchard Racing Team recruit Slade is 16 short.

Reynolds made his championship debut at Sandown in 2007, with Slade debuting for Paul Morris Motorsport in 2009.

Popular trio strike 250

Three drivers are set to reach 250 race starts in 2021.

Scott Pye will have the shortest wait of the three, with the first race of the season to be the Team 18 driver's 250th, having made his debut in the 2012 enduros for Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport.

Walkinshaw Andretti United ace Chaz Mostert enters the new season on 231 race starts, with Brad Jones Racing's Nick Percat on 223.

Fifty up for young guns

Brad Jones Racing's two other drivers will also reach some solid numbers in 2021, with Jack Smith 10 short of 50 career races.

Macauley Jones is eight short of 50 round starts, and 19 short of 100 career races.

Walkinshaw Andretti United sophomore Bryce Fullwood is also 14 short of 50 career races.
