The Top Fuel drag racer behind PremiAir Racing

PremiAir Racing owner Peter Xiberras admits there are many decisions to be made for his new-look squad, just six weeks out from the season-opening Repco Newcastle 500.

Team Sydney bosses Jonathon and Kobe Webb confirmed on Thursday that Xiberras had purchased the squad’s two Racing Entitlement Contracts.

The deal ended the Webb family’s 12-year association with the Repco Supercars Championship.

Australian businessman Xiberras is now set to lead a two-car PremiAir Racing team into the 2022 season.

Xiberras has a long association with Australian motorsport and Team Sydney, sponsoring Garry Jacobson’s #22 PremiAir Hire Commodore entry.

Owning a Supercars team has been a long-term goal for the 53-year-old, who won the 2021 Top Fuel championship at Willowbank Raceway last June.

“It’s daunting, and there are a lot of mixed emotions,” Xiberras told Supercars.com.

“There’s a lot to do in a short time frame, we are kind of still piecing it all together.

“Sometimes you can achieve in six weeks what would have taken you 12 months if you’ve got a tight deadline to work to.

“But what is comforting for me, is that I've been involved with the team over the past few years, and I have seen how it works, so I am really excited to get involved and push the team forward.”

Xiberras is no stranger to winning, beginning his Top Fuel racing career in 2014, he recently completed the fastest 1000-foot pass in Australian history at the 2021 Winternationals.

Starting his national hire business from a milking shed in Sydney’s Northwest in 1994, Xiberras said he is ready for the challenges of spearheading a Supercars team. 

“We will be ready for round one, it might not be exactly what we want by then, but we will be competitive and do what we need to do,” Xiberras continued.

“For the rest of this year, it will be about learning and growing and hopefully getting better and better as we go along.”

Xiberras confirmed the team will no longer be based in Sydney, with Melbourne and Brisbane locations being considered.

Confirmation of team members and workshop locations are due to be announced in the coming weeks. The team will continue to run Triple Eight ZB Commodores for the 2022 season.

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle in March. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
