Tickford's Tasmanian Achilles heel

The Ford team is on a 10-year, 21-race winless streak in Tassie

One team hoping for a form reversal at Symmons Plains will be Tickford Racing.

Next weekend's NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint will be held at the site of a traditional Triple Eight bullring.

Dating back to 2007, Triple Eight cars have won 23 of the last 33 races at the 2.41km circuit.

Conversely, it is a drastically different story for Tickford, which hasn't won on the Apple Isle in 10 years.

Will Davison's Sunday victory in 2012 remains the Ford team's most recent victory in Tasmania.

Since that result, Triple Eight, Brad Jones Racing, Tekno, DJR Team Penske and Walkinshaw Andretti United have all scored Tassie wins.

Of active venues, it is by far Tickford's longest streak without a victory, ahead of Bathurst (2014), Darwin and Winton (both 2015).

Even then, Tickford cars have graced the podium at those three venues; the team didn't even register a Tassie podium in 2021.

Since Davison's 2012 win, Tickford has gone winless in Tasmania in 21 races. That includes five races in which a Tickford car started on pole position.

Notably, Cam Waters scooped both Sunday poles last April, but could finish no better than fourth.

Of Tickford's 77 wins in Supercars, just three have come at Symmons Plains; Jason Bright (2006), Mark Winterbottom (2010) and Davison (2012).

For context, Tickford has recorded as many wins as Bahrain, which was last on the calendar in 2010.

The Campbellfield squad's 2022 campaign got off to a rocky start in Sydney, although Waters' fourth in Race 2 proved the team has turned a corner.

For new recruit Jake Kostecki, the team's hard work will be put to the test at Symmons Plains.

Davison celebrates victory in 2012

"Sydney was a tough first round with the team," Kostecki said.

"They have struggled in the past there, it's no lie they struggled again this year, but I’m pretty confident we can make good gains for Tassie.

"Cam scored two poles there last year and there’s no reason why we can’t do it again this year.

"I know we are fast in Tassie, so I’m really looking forward to getting here."
