Powerhouse brand to join Supercars in 2026
Recent news of the end of Toyota Supra A90 production will have no impact on the brand's first Gen3 Supercar design, Toyota Australia has affirmed.
Last week, Toyota announced the A90 Toyota GR Supra sports coupe will exit production in 2025. A new generation of the GR Supra has been confirmed, but production of the A90 variant will be discontinued.
Toyota did, however, confirm two special models – a Track Edition for Australia, and a more powerful A90 Final Edition for other markets.
In September, Toyota announced plans to enter the Repco Supercars Championship in 2026 with an A90-specification GR Supra, with Walkinshaw Andretti United selected as the homologation team.
Despite recent news that the A90 being discontinued, Toyota Australia confirmed it will continue with the A90 design as originally announced.
A full-scale model of the car was unveiled at the Repco Bathurst 1000 in October, with fans given access to the stunning design for the first time.
"The Track Edition is the final upgrade for Australia of the current-generation A90 GR Supra," a Toyota Australia spokesperson confirmed to Supercars.com.
"Toyota's participation in Supercars will continue with the A90 GR Supra Supercar as originally announced."
It comes after the initial Ford Gen3 Supercar prototype ran with the S550 Mustang body, before Ford teams hit the track with the new S650 panels at the start of the Gen3 era in 2023.
There is set to be at least four Supras on the 2026 grid, with two to be run by WAU, and another two by a yet-to-be-announced second team.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Sydney on February 21-23. Tickets are on sale now.
