A tyre compound change has been ratified for the forthcoming Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint.

The Sandown round, on August 19-21, was previously slated to be run on the Dunlop Soft tyre.

In the latest raft of rule changes, the event will now be run on the Super Soft tyre.

Drivers will have a pre-marked set and seven event marked sets for the weekend.

It comes after the 2021 Sandown event was held on the Soft tyre.

Sandown becomes the sixth different circuit in 2022 to use Dunlop’s softest compound.

The new compound made its racing debut at the Sydney season-opener.

It was solely used in Tasmania, Winton and Darwin.

Drivers used a single set of Super Softs in both 500km Townsville races.

Super Soft tyres allow for considerably faster lap times, but degrade in quality at a much quicker rate.

Tyre life will be a key consideration at Sandown, which features large kerbs at Turns 2 and 3.

Locking is also an issue into Turn 1, which is at the end of the long pit straight.

Given the long straights and high speeds, vibrations will also be a factor.

The Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint schedule will be released in the lead-up to the event.

Tickets for the event are on sale now through Ticketek and Supercars.com.
