Brad Vaughan’s difficult weekend in Townsville has got even tougher after being handed a three-place grid penalty over impeding Jack Perkins during Boost Mobile Qualifying.

The Tickford driver had initially qualified in fourth, rewarding the overnight efforts of his team to get his Mustang repaired after suffering heavy damage in yesterday’s lap one accident.

However Vaughan will now start out of seventh, with Campbell Logan to start fourth, Perkins promoted to fifth, and Jordyn Sinni to line up in sixth.

Motorsport Australia has advised the following: “Brad Vaughan has been handed a three-grid place penalty for impeding Jack Perkins in Dunlop Series qualifying at Turn 6.”

It’s the second straight year that Vaughan and Perkins have had run-in in a Townsville qualifying session, after colliding in Saturday qualifying last year.

That collision led to Perkins' withdrawal from the remainder of the weekend, whilst Vaughan would be disqualified from the session.

Zach Bates will start from pole position for Race 2 this afternoon, with series leader Kai Allen to line up alongside on the front row.

Race 2 for the Dunlop Series in Townsville will begin at 1:15pm AEST.
