New Supercars champion and son of Toowoomba, Will Brown, will be presented with the Keys to the Region following his triumph in 2024.

Toowoomba Regional Council this week gave the green light to Brown, with the Triple Eight Race Engineering driver receiving the civic honour at its December Ordinary Meeting.

Brown won the Repco Supercars Championship at last month's VAILO Adelaide 500 following a stunning campaign, headlined by 19 podiums in 24 starts.

The 26-year-old became the first driver in 40 years to claim a podium finish at every round of a season, and will be awarded the honour in January 2025.

Brown joins an outstanding list of recipients who have been presented with the Keys to the Region, including IndyCar star Will Power, and the then-youngest Australian to climb Mt Everest, Alyssa Azar.

It comes after Brown was given a hero's welcome to Toowoomba in the days after Adelaide, with hundreds turning out to celebrate his championship.

"Will Brown is a Toowoomba success story, whose passion for motor racing was ignited when a football injury at 13 saw him jump in a go-kart," Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said in a council release.

"His skill and tenacity saw him move through the ranks from Formula 4, Formula Ford, Toyota 86 racing, Super2 Series, touring cars, to eventually landing in the highly prized V8 Supercars series.

"Will showed grit and determination to complete a childhood dream by winning the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship this year.

"While he drives across the country and competes internationally, Will is a proud Toowoomba boy, who is a fine ambassador for our Region.

"He and his family can be justifiably proud of his amazing title win this year and it is fitting that his years of training and competing can be further recognised by Council with this special presentation.”

Brown will commence his championship defence at the opening round of 2025 in Sydney on February 21-23. Tickets are on sale now.
