Second-generation racer James Masterton, a former ket ski champ, returns to the Dunlop Super2 Series this year, this time in the AIM Motorsport stable with Zane Morse and Jett Johnson.
Son of noted Group C touring car racer Steve, Masterton carved out his own exceptional career in jet ski racing over the best part of two decades, winning multiple Australian championships and becoming world champion at the 2007 IJSBA World Finals at Lake Havasu in the United States.
He swapped the water for tarmac in 2020, retiring from professional jet ski racing entirely at the end of 2019, buying an ex-Paul Morris Motorsport Holden Commodore VE and joining the Super3 Series ranks.
After two and a half seasons of steady progression, Masterton has upgraded from the Project Blueprint era Commodore to a Ford Mustang GT for the Super2 Series' first year featuring Car of the Future machinery.
Prior to his driving career, Masterton had been in Supercars as a sponsor: his Sydney Sea-Doo dealership backed Jonathan Webb and TEKNO Autosports in the early 2010s.
Masterton's debut Super2 season featured a heavy crash at Sandown, forcing him to miss the Adelaide round altogether.
