All-night repairs rescue David Reynolds, Cameron Hill Camaros
Hill, Reynolds crashed heavily in Friday's Boost Mobile Qualifying session
Overnight efforts see cars set for Saturday morning practice
Team 18 and Matt Stone Racing have pulled off overnight repair miracles at the VAILO Adelaide 500 following major Turn 8 crashes on Friday.
The Chevrolet teams were forced into big repair efforts after Cameron Hill and David Reynolds crashed heavily in Friday's Boost Mobile Qualifying session.
After Richie Stanaway crashed, Hill's car sustained damage on all four corners of his SP Tools Camaro, with Reynolds crashing his TRADIE Beer entry just 11 seconds later.
Both teams are set to get their cars on track for Practice 3 at 10:00am local time, just hours after mechanics returned to the track following gut-busting repair efforts.
Such was the damage to the Reynolds car, that the team required new front and rear clips, with items supplied by Erebus Motorsport and its fabricator James White.
Sadly for Team 18, it was major damage for the second time in three events following Reynolds' big Bathurst qualifying crash, with the new car damaged in just its second event.
"It was a big night again. The boys did an awesome job," Team 18 Team Principal Adrian Burgess told Supercars.com.
"They basically rolled in at 6.30am, had a shower and came back to the track. We'll see how we go today.
"We're lucky we've got a practice session to iron out any bugs, but it's going to be hard to do anything in today's race. But the car's been quick all weekend, so for me the focus is Sunday.
"The chassis is alright. We had to pull three tubes out of the main chassis, front and rear clip were changed, so yeah, it's been a big night."
Reynolds and Hill are set to start Saturday's race from 21st and 23rd respectively.
Race 23 qualifying was ultimately declared following the crashes. Stanaway managed to recover his damaged car back to pit lane. However, Hill and Reynolds crashed just 11 seconds apart and came to rest on the run to Turn 9, causing a red flag.
A number of concrete barriers were dislodged at Turn 8 due to the impacts, with the wall repairs ultimately taking the session past the local circuit cut-off time of 6:15pm.
Given all cars had had an opportunity to set a meaningful lap time, stewards made a recommendation to declare the session.
Championship leader Will Brown clinched provisional pole ahead of Cam Waters, Thomas Randle and Broc Feeney, while Chaz Mostert — who hadn’t set a lap time — ended up 22nd.
Supercars will return on Saturday with Practice 3 at 10:00am local time/10:30am AEDT, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:35pm/1:05pm AEDT.
The Shootout will set the grid for the first 78-lap race of the weekend, Race 23, at 3:20pm local time/3:50pm AEDT.
