Golding cops grid penalty for impeding Brown

James Golding has copped a grid penalty for the betr Darwin Triple Crown opener due to impeding Will Brown.

Golding qualified seventh for Race 13, with Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters securing his first pole of the season.

The #31 Nulon Camaro was set to share the fourth row of the grid with sister car Tim Slade.

However, it was revealed at the end of Q2 that Golding had been placed under investigation for impeding.

Onboard replays from Brown’s #9 Coca-Cola Camaro showed Golding weaving towards Turn 1 after leaving pit lane.

Brown was forced to baulk behind and was compromised into Turn 1. Brown later slumped to 19th in Q2.

Slade will now start seventh, with Scott Pye (#20 Hino Camaro), Thomas Randle (#55 Castrol Mustang) and Brodie Kostecki (#99 Coca-Cola Camaro) promoted up the order.

Golding drops from seventh to 11th, and will share the sixth row with Anton De Pasquale (#11 Shell V-Power Mustang).

Race 13 will commence at 3:25pm local time/3:55pm AEST.
