Van Gisbergen emerged atop the time sheets in the closing minutes despite a ragged run to the line.

The #97 Red Bull Ampol Racing Commodore met traffic across Skyline in the form of Andre Heimgartner, who allowed van Gisbergen safe passage into the Dipper.

Van Gisbergen also gained a tow down Conrod Straight, with the 2020 Bathurst winner recording a 2:04.319s.

Mostert immediately responded with a 2:04.208s, before Anton De Pasquale went even quicker across the first two sectors.

However, De Pasquale threw away his lap after an error at Murray's Corner.

Waters was third all told on a 2:04.455s, some 0.2s down on former teammate Mostert, with Nick Percat and Will Davison fourth and fifth.

All runners from Mostert through to De Pasquale in 14th were covered by 0.972s.

The first half of the session saw teams focus on pit stop practice, from driver changes to brake pad changes.

From there, with an eye on qualifying, the pace began to quicken. Notably, Mostert slotted into second behind Will Brown, who led the early running on a 2:05.174s.

By session's end, Mostert had put 0.966s on Brown's early flyer.

Tim Slade, James Courtney, David Reynolds, Mark Winterbottom and Brodie Kostecki rounded out the top 10.

Jamie Whincup was only 20th with a best of 2:05.711s in the #88 Red Bull Ampol entry.
