David Reynolds to start 200th Supercars at Taupō
Reynolds debuted at 2007 Sandown 500
Team 18 veteran is fifth in the championship after Round 2
David Reynolds will make his 200th Supercars round start at the upcoming ITM Taupō Super400, adding extra significance to the Team 18 veteran's trip to New Zealand.
Reynolds is enjoying life at Team 18, sitting fifth in the drivers' standings after two rounds.
The 2017 Bathurst winner becomes the fourth active full-time driver to join the '200' club.
Reynolds joins former series champions Mark Winterbottom and James Courtney, as well as two-time Bathurst winner Will Davison on 200 or more rounds.
Team 18 teammate Winterbottom will bring up his 278th round in New Zealand, while Ford veterans Courtney and Davison will notch up 248 rounds.
The eight-time Supercars race winner becomes the 21st driver to achieve the feat, some 17 years after he debuted in the 2007 Sandown 500 as a co-driver.
A Walkinshaw junior, Reynolds made his Supercars race debut alongside Cameron McConville at Sandown, in the year he scored the Carrera Cup crown for the Sonic team.
Reynolds' first full-time season came with Walkinshaw in 2009, before he returned in 2011 with Kelly Racing.
However, a short-lived relationship led to a move to Ford Performance Racing in 2012, with Reynolds claiming his first pole (Townsville 2012), podium (Bathurst 2012) and win (Gold Coast 2013) with the Ford team.
He finished third overall in 2015, but had already set sail to Erebus Motorsport, where the Albury-born driver delivered an emotional Bathurst win.
After initially agreeing to a 10-year deal with Erebus, Reynolds ultimately reunited with the Kellys in 2011, before a full Groves takeover led to an upswing in form.
After Reynolds scored seven podiums in 2022, he finally broke through last year to win on the Gold Coast, three months after his Team 18 deal became public.
In 199 rounds and 438 races, Reynolds has eight wins, 16 pole positions and 44 podium finishes. He also has results in the past in New Zealand, winning with FPR (later renamed Prodrive Racing Australia) at Pukekohe in 2015.
Reynolds and the rest of the Supercars field will race at the inaugural Taupō event on April 19-21.
Fans are encouraged to secure their ticket options, with Saturday and Sunday general admission and grandstand allocations exhausted.
