A last-gasp Will Davison has scored provisional Race 20 pole at the NTI Townsville 500.

The two-time Bathurst winner led Shell V-Power Racing Team teammate Anton De Pasquale by 0.17s.

Davison and De Pasquale will be the last drivers out in the ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout.

Davison will, however, be relegated one position after he was penalised for impeding James Courtney.

Jack Le Brocq impressed to third in the absence of team owner Matt Stone.

Stone is absent from Townsville due to the birth of his third child.

Cam Waters was fourth ahead of points leader Shane van Gisbergen, who won Saturday’s race.

The big shock relative to Saturday was Andre Heimgartner, who qualified 12th.

Heimgartner was one position behind Broc Feeney, who missed out on a shootout berth by 0.04s.

Waters set the early running after the first runs ahead of Chaz Mostert, Davison, Brodie Kostecki and David Reynolds.

Le Brocq led the running on the second runs, with van Gisbergen dropping as low as 14th.

Van Gisbergen clocked a time good enough for fifth as the chequered flag flew.

It was Davison, however, who proved quickest of all at the Reid Park Street Circuit.

Davison clocked a 1:13.265s, with De Pasquale second on a 1:13439s.

Courtney was sixth ahead of Mostert, with Thomas Randle, Scott Pye and Reynolds rounding out the top 10.

Tickford rookie Randle will compete in his first ever Top Ten Shootout.

The ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout will commence at 12:00pm local time.

The 88-lap Race 20 will conclude the NTI Townsville 500 at 2:45pm.
