  • Two new numbers come in for 2025 Supercars season

  • Three numbers used in 2024 season won't return this year

  • Brown to run #1, Kostecki to run #38, Stanaway takes #62

There will be new drivers and new numbers when the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship gets underway at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 21-23.

Three numbers have changed hands, one number returns after a one-year absence, while two more will make for a pair of different-looking cars for two teams.

Ahead of the new season, Supercars.com breaks down the car numbers to look out for.

What's moved

The champion's #1 is the only number that is changing teams, courtesy of Will Brown's 2024 title victory. The #1 shifts from Erebus Motorsport to Triple Eight Race Engineering, which will use the champ's number on a full-time basis for the first time since Jamie Whincup ran it in 2018. Shane van Gisbergen did, however, run the #1 as a one-off to celebrate Holden's final round in 2022.

The #26, which was used by Richie Stanaway at Penrite Racing in 2024, will be used by replacement driver Kai Allen. The teenager raced the #26 in a cameo appearance in Adelaide last year, after Stanaway was ruled out.

Then, there's the #18, which will be raced by Team 18 recruit Anton De Pasquale in 2025. De Pasquale replaces Mark Winterbottom, who raced at Team 18 between 2019 and 2024.

What's in

The #38 will be used by Brodie Kostecki in his first season with Dick Johnson Racing. Kostecki, who ran the champion's #1 last season, will reunite with the #38, which he used in the Dunlop Series with Eggleston Motorsport. The #38 also has a strong connection to Johnson himself, who used it in his first ever race meeting in 1964 at Lakeside in Queensland. Johnson also carried the #38 on his NASCARs in the 1990s.

Stanaway, who moves from Penrite Racing to PremiAir Racing, will race with the #62. The number carries significance for Stanaway, whose father Neville used it in his own racing days.

Erebus, meanwhile, welcomes back the #99, which Kostecki carried to championship glory in 2023. Rookie Cooper Murray will run the #99, with Jack Le Brocq to continue with the #9.

What's out

Brown's decision to run the #1 means the #87 is benched after just one season. The #87 was picked up by Brown and Triple Eight last season, with the team opting against running Shane van Gisbergen's #97.

The #11 also disappears, replaced by the #38 at DJR. De Pasquale wanted to use the #11 at DJR, with the number ceremoniously handed over by Larry Perkins in 2021.

Stanaway's decision to run the #62, comes at the expense of the #23, which was carried by the now retired Tim Slade in 2023 and 2024 at PremiAir Racing.
