DJR responds to Kai Allen/Penrite Racing deal
Allen announced with Grove Racing on Tuesday
DJR boss Ryan Story "very excited" for Allen
Dick Johnson Racing Team Principal Ryan Story is “very excited and happy” to see Kai Allen secure a seat on the 2025 grid with rivals Grove Racing.
Ford rivals Grove Racing, which operate under the Penrite Racing banner, announced teenager Allen as Richie Stanaway’s replacement.
Teenager Allen, last year’s Super2 champion, will partner Matt Payne in one of the youngest teammate combinations in Supercars history.
Allen, 19, linked up with DJR last season and raced a wildcard Mustang at the Repco Bathurst 1000 with Simona De Silvestro.
The South Australian was promoted to a main game co-drive alongside Will Davison, who along with teammate Anton De Pasquale, is off-contract for 2025.
DJR seemed a logical suitor for Allen, before Stanaway’s exit opened the door to a seat at Penrite Racing. DJR boss Story, however, has welcomed the rising star's ascension to the main game, even if it is coming with a rival squad.
“We're excited to have Kai join us for the enduros,” Story said.
“He's had a lot of seat time with us over the past few years so we have gotten to know him well and his potential.
“He's heading to a great team where they know how to win and he will do a great job there. Very excited and happy for him. Happy to see him in the main game.”
DJR has also been linked to reigning champion Brodie Kostecki, with PremiAir Nulon Racing also believed to be in the race to sign the reigning champion.
The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint on August 16-18. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
Live coverage can be found on Foxtel, with live streaming available on Kayo. Highlights will be shown on the Seven Network and 7plus. International viewers can follow all the action on Superview.
