Supercars completed final test of 2024 at The Bend
New tyre, engine drivability, steering rack tested on Thursday
Team 18 Camaros, Tickford Mustang on hand for test
On-track running in 2024 came to a close following a big day at The Bend Motorsport Park last week, where three Supercars hit the track.
Both Team 18 Chevrolet Camaros and a Tickford Racing Ford Mustang took to the South Australian circuit last Thursday.
Harri Jones completed an evaluation day with Team 18 in the Melbourne squad's DEWALT Camaro, while the sister car and Tickford Mustang completed category testing.
The final track test of 2024 saw the continuation of tyre testing ahead of the new control compound’s debut in 2025, while the new control steering rack was also tested.
The Bend, which will host an enduro for the first time next September, was an ideal proving ground for both the steering rack and the tyre, given the high loads and long-radius corners.
The circuit’s long straights also gave Supercars an opportunity to complete some engine drivability calibration and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) correlation work.
“It was the last test for the year, it was a good day,” Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards told Supercars.com.
“We did some tyre testing, some steering rack testing, some engine calibration testing, some CFD correlation work.
“We just had a lot of little things that we wanted to tick off.”
Two dry compounds of Dunlop's control SP Sport Maxx tyres, the Soft and Super Soft, will be in use next season alongside the Wet Weather tyre.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 21-23.
Tickets for the Sydney event, and the majority of 2025 events, are on sale now.
