James Moffat was left seething over an early clash with Brodie Kostecki while fighting for the effective lead.
Moffat combined with Cam Waters to finish third in Sunday’s Repco Bathurst 1000.
It was a smart comeback after Moffat was sent into a spin by Kostecki at The Cutting on lap 46.
Moffat bogged down from pole, but remained in the fight after a solid first stint.
He took over from Waters, and was the effective leader with Kostecki behind.
A Safety Car had bunched the field together after Tim Blanchard was sent into the Forrest’s Elbow tyres by Nick Percat.
On the second lap after the restart, Kostecki sent Moffat into a spin.
Moffat stayed out of the walls, but was relegated to the rear.
The incident was investigated and stewards took no further action.
Waters later cleared Kostecki for the final place on the podium.
However, it did little to calm Moffat.
"It was probably going okay for us until Brodie just drove like a dickhead at The Cutting,” Moffat said.
“And turned us around and put us on the back foot, really, for the rest of the day.
“Proud of the team for just putting their heads down and not giving up and Cam drove the wheels off it like he always does.
“So, to get back up on the podium is nice.”
Moffat and Waters finished second in 2021 behind Chaz Mostert, who finished second on Sunday.
Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander won the race.
Waters initially ran with the leaders, but fell away late on.
“We probably just weren’t quite fast enough with the car speed,” Moffat said.
“Then when you get stuck behind cars, it’s just so difficult to follow in these current generation cars.
“You’re really only got a lap or two pull a move, and otherwise it’s usually follow-the-leader."
