WITH the 2013 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series less than a month away, Novocastrian Motorsport has taken the covers off its new cars, and welcomed Gulf Western Oil as a new sponsor.

The liveries Aaren Russell and Michael Hector will carry on their newly-purchased Stone Brothers Racing-built FG Falcons were unveiled at Hunter Stadium on Tuesday 29 January, with the season to kick off at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500 on 28 February to 3 March.

Russell will continue to race with CEG Rentals and Carrington Equipment Group backing, while Hector’s Falcon will feature Gulf Western Oil as its major sponsor in a new deal.

Built by three-time V8 Supercar Championship winning outfit Stone Brothers Racing, Russell will drive SBR FG05, taken by Tim Slade to fifth in the 2012 V8 Supercar Championship. Hector will use SBR FG01, the Dunlop Series title winner in the hands of Scott McLaughlin.

The team will test the new machinery for the first time at Wakefield Park Raceway today.

In the 2012 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series, brothers Drew and Aaren Russell finished 11th and 15th respectively for Novocastrian Motorsport, with Hector 19th in his rookie season.

WAYNE RUSSELL, TEAM OWNER

“It’s been a busy off-season, bringing these new Stone Brothers Racing Falcons into the team, Drew and Aaren have been flatout since the 2012 season concluded in early December.

“But it’s also been an incredibly exciting time. With the new cars, it’s the best position the team has ever been in, and I know Aaren and Michael can’t wait to get out there and start testing.

“Everybody knows how competitive the series is, but we’re looking forward to taking a big step forward in 2013, over what we were able to do with the old cars.

“We’re working hard to secure the best possible car for Drew, and we’ll make an announcement on that front in due course.”

MICHAEL HECTOR

“It’s fantastic to have Gulf Western Oil on board in their return to the sport. They’ve been an enthusiastic supporter of Australian motorsport over a long period of time.

“In 2012, I achieved what I set out to do, and that was really learning the tracks and how the series works, and staying out of trouble. This year is a whole new story and I’m aiming to finish inside the Top 10.

“I’ve raced on all of the tracks now, I’m driving last year’s championship winning car and I’ve been working very hard on my fitness over the off-season. I can’t wait to get started.”
