Power rankings: Which driver ranked highest in Bathurst?

The chequered flag fell on the opening round of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship, with Shane van Gisbergen completing a clean sweep.

Several drivers impressed, but four drivers took home the trophies across the first two races of the year.

After every round in 2021, the Supercars.com team will assess every driver’s performance and then score them out of 10.

The five scores are then averaged out to produce a race score.

With an eye on the Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint, Supercars.com has rounded up the key performers from the Bathurst opener.

1) Shane van Gisbergen

Race 1: 1stRace 2: 1stScore: 9.6

Van Gisbergen was on a tear in Bathurst, scoring his third season-opening clean sweep following his dominant 2017 and 2018 efforts in Adelaide. He recovered after a sluggish Friday practice showing to qualify third on Saturday, before topping every session and race from there.

2) Chaz Mostert

Race 1: 2ndRace 2: 3rdScore: 9.0

Mostert began his second Walkinshaw Andretti United campaign with quick times in both Friday practice sessions, and clinched two podiums. The only thing missing was a pole and a win, but don’t expect either drought to last much longer.

3) Mark Winterbottom

Race 1: 4thRace 2: 5thScore: 8.6

Winterbottom kicked off his third Team 18 campaign with a brilliant weekend, scoring two top five finishes and equalling his best result for the team in Race 1. The next target? A first podium for the team, and his first since 2018. 

4) Cameron Waters

Race 1: 20thRace 2: 2ndScore: 8.4

Waters deserved more than 20th in Race 1, with a power steering pump drama ruining his Saturday charge following a brilliant pole position. He went toe-to-toe with van Gisbergen on Sunday, before the Red Bull Ampol Racing ace put Waters in his place following a close battle at pit exit. 

5) Will Davison

Race 1: 3rdRace 2: 7thScore: 8.0

Davison’s first weekend back in Dick Johnson Racing colours in 13 years began brilliantly with a strong run to third on Saturday. An error at the final corner saw him drop to seventh behind Jamie Whincup, and he was outqualified by teammate Anton De Pasquale on both days. 

6) Bryce Fullwood

Race 1: 5thRace 2: 13thScore: 7.8

Fullwood’s second WAU campaign began with a solid run to fifth in Race 1, with the former Dunlop Super2 champion beating some established stars in the brutal race. He dropped to 13th on Sunday, but left the weekend seventh overall, helping WAU to second in the teams’ standings.

7) Jack Le Brocq

Race 1: 6thRace 2: 19thScore: 7.6

A grisly foot injury couldn’t deny Le Brocq securing a brilliant run to sixth on Saturday, having started 15th. Shifting to the #5 Truck Assist Mustang, and with a new engineer in Sam Scaffidi, Le Brocq impressed despite slumping to 19th on Sunday as the injury worsened.

=8) David Reynolds

Race 1: 9thRace 2: 11thScore: 7.4

Finishes of ninth and 11th masked how impressive Reynolds’ first weekend in a Kelly Grove Racing Mustang was. The 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner kept his nose clean and left Bathurst eighth overall. 

=8) Brodie Kostecki

Race 1: 11thRace 2: 12thScore: 7.4

Kostecki’s maiden full-time campaign began with a bang, with the 23-year-old clinching a spot in Saturday’s ARMOR All Top 10 Shootout. Finishes of 11th and 12th helped him to 11th overall, but critically, he left the mountain with a straight car.

10) Tim Slade

Race 1: DNFRace 2: DNSScore: 7.2

Slade deserved so much better than a DNF, DNS, zero points and a bent car. However, second in Saturday’s shootout far outweighed several other results on the weekend, considering the competition across the board. Slade was running fourth at the time of his Race 1 accident, proving the new Blanchard Racing Team will be in for a big season.
