There were plenty of bangers, but we've narrowed it down to five

Trying to narrow down the five best races of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship wasn't easy, but there were some clear standouts in what was a blockbuster season.

From the Bathurst 500 to Adelaide, there were 24 races full of drama, tension and incidents. Think Melbourne, when Cam Waters and Matt Payne collided, or Sydney, where Chaz Mostert chased down rivals on both days.

Then, there's the Repco Bathurst 1000, which wasn't an incident-packed race, but did deliver one of the great modern day tit-for-tat battles in recent years between Brodie Kostecki and Broc Feeney.

With 2024 in the rear-vision mirror, we've ranked the best races of the year.

5) Taupō turns it on

Race: Taupō, Race 7

Winner: Andre Heimgartner

The very first Supercars at Taupō had it all, and the fairytale was complete with Andre Heimgartner taking victory in wet conditions. Pole man Cam Waters was sent into a spin off the line after a clash with Tim Slade, Broc Feeney was turned around at Turn 1, Chaz Mostert lost a wheel, and there was plenty more chaos. All told, Heimgartner made it look easy, cruising home to claim his first win since 2021.

4) Sandown goes crazy

Race: Sandown, Race 19

Winner: Will Brown/Scott Pye

In a race that featured five Safety Car periods, Will Brown beat Broc Feeney in a tense affair at Sandown, with James Golding clinching a maiden podium for PremiAir Nulon Racing. There was drama up and down the field, from Todd Hazelwood firing off at Turn 6 to Lee Holdsworth spinning, and Richie Stanaway suffering a scary crankshaft failure at 230km/h. Brown held on, despite a hairy clash with Feeney in the closing laps.

3) Redemption day, by a nose

Race: Melbourne, Race 6

Winner: Nick Percat

In a race that produced the closest finish of 2024, Matt Stone Racing recruit Nick Percat pulled one out of the fire to hold off the charging Will Brown and Broc Feeney. Percat took the lead after Chaz Mostert hit Matt Payne at the back chicane, and Brown managed to get by Feeney and clinch the Larry Perkins Trophy after starting ninth.

2) A battle for the ages

Race: Townsville, Race 13

Winner: Cam Waters

Cam Waters and Chaz Mostert added the best chapter to their latest book of battles in a stunning Townsville race, which would have taken out top spot on this list if not for the final race of the season. Waters and Mostert went punch for punch all day, the lead changing hands on a number of occasions. A late shower threatened to undo their hard work, and Waters made the crucial move in the closing laps to take the win.

1) An instant classic

Race: Adelaide, Race 24

Winner: Will Brown

On lap 9, Will Brown was facing the wrong way, watching the field sail on by. In the space of 69 laps, he picked off car after car and sat third with 16 laps remaining. Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney, who had battled all day and clashed in the pit, came together at Turn 5. Feeney was penalised, Mostert nursed a damaged car, and Brown was in the fight. Brown got by and won the race courtesy of Feeney's penalties, as Mostert denied Thomas Randle, Will Davison and Nick Percat to finish an unlikely second.
