Reynolds reveals Townsville 'Achilles heel'

Struggles on the Hard tyre left Penrite Racing duo David Reynolds and Lee Holdsworth behind in Townsville.

Neither Penrite Mustang recorded a race top 10 across the weekend.

Reynolds managed to reach Sunday’s Shootout, but dropped to 11th in the race.

Holdsworth, meanwhile, finished 23rd and was penalised for ignoring blue flags.

Reynolds, who dropped from fifth to seventh in the points, is hoping for better performance in Tailem Bend.

It was at The Bend in 2021 where the team broke through with pole and victory with Andre Heimgartner.

"We knew we were going to face a few challenges today so getting into the Top Ten Shootout was a positive all things considering,” he said.

"In the race I got a good jump and avoided Scott Pye’s crash on lap 1.

“As we got into the stint our Achilles heel all weekend; Hard tyre pace, made life difficult.

“Once I got the Super Soft tyres on at the end I had really good speed and got up to P7.

“Then I just couldn’t hold onto them and dropped to P11.

"Hopefully The Bend next up suits our package better with the high grip surface and sprint races there.”

It was an even tougher weekend for Holdsworth, who was without regular race engineer Will Davidson.

Team Principal David Cauchi subbed in for Davidson, but was unable to unlock pace in the #10 Ford.

Holdsworth dropped to 13th overall across the weekend.

"This weekend has been our toughest all year,” Holdsworth said.

"We tried a lot of different things with the cars on set up but we never found a clear direction.

"It’s a test for us and as long as we learn from it, which I think we will.

“We’ll come back with more speed at The Bend in a few weeks time.”
