It’s a first for our sport, having an ANZAC clash – and it is one not to be missed with the points tight and the stakes high at the ITM 500 Auckland.
With the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy on offer once again, each of the 25 V8 Supercars drivers will be pushing hard across the weekend's four races.
And with a tight turnaround today, each team will need to maximise the 30-minute practice session, which is just 15 minutes before the ARMOR ALL Qualifying session. Who will score the weekend’s first pole?
Who will score the first ever ANZAC Day race win?
The special day will be celebrated with tributes flowing – from the Chaplain’s address, the Last Post and one minute of silence on the starting grid, and a reading of the ode in Te Reo Maori, as well as in English. Both national anthems will be played, and the engines will rev, celebrating the friendship and rivalry between our two great countries.
Points earned today will count towards the Championship, and the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, to be awarded after Sunday’s 200km race for the driver with the most accumulative points at the ITM 500 Auckland.
But aside from the V8 Supercars, there’s plenty to keep you and the family busy at Pukekohe Park Raceway today – and public transport to the circuit is free with a pre-purchased ticket (click here for more info).
With TradeZone GTRNZ, AutoSure Central Muscle Cars, UDC V8 Utes, NZV8 Touring Cars and the BNT V8 SuperTourers – with local favourite Murphy behind the wheel – there is non-stop on-track action. Drifter Cole Armstrong will also hit the track in his V Energy R34 Nissan Skyline for the weekend.
While you're not engrossed in the racing, experience some of the off-track additions. Take a look at the RSA display of historic defence force vehicles and head to Merchandise Alley to see the latest merch in your team’s colours. Click here for more details of what's on.
For those looking to meet their favourites – if you’re lucky, you may spot your number one for a quick autograph or photo in the paddock – so secure a paddock pass for the weekend.
If you’re looking for a different viewing experience, head to the Chill-out Zone, above the turn 11 bleaches, overlooking a big screen and running a live band.
Or for the ultimate viewpoint, go for a Heletranz heli hot lap, for a bird’s eye view of the circuit for NZ$85. Find more info here.
