18-year-old to race Triple Eight-build ZB Commodore
Toyota GR Cup stand-out Bradi Owen will graduate to the Dunlop Super2 Series in 2025 with Eggleston Motorsport.
The 18-year-old from the Gold Coast will join the Melbourne-based team to drive one of its Triple Eight-built ZB Commodores in the Supercars development category.
Owen has won three races in this year’s Toyota GR Cup and finished on the podium in seven of the nine races held so far to be one of the contenders to win this year’s series.
He currently sits second in the Toyota GR Cup after the weekend’s round at Sandown.
Owen graduated from karts into Hyundai Excel racing and debuted in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series in 2022.
Last year he again competed in the Toyota one-make series and this year marks his third season in the category now known as the Toyota GR Cup.
Owen has also been racing on the dirt tracks of speedway in addition to his circuit racing program and wheeled a Sprintcar to eighth place in this year’s Queensland Sprintcar Championship.
“We can’t wait to have another young and upcoming driver join the team for 2025,” says Eggleston Motorsport’s Rachael Eggleston.
“We have been watching Bradi closely in the GR Cup and his consistency is what has really impressed us. To be on the podium in seven from nine races so far this season is what you need to do to win championships. You must ensure you finish races and bank those points.
“Working with young talent is something we are really passionate about. Bradi is going to be a hard worker and that’s what it takes in this game to get yourself ahead of the competition.
“We look forward to having Bradi spend some time around the team at the next two events to get a head start on our 2025 preparations.”
The Gold Coast teenager is buoyed by the news.
“I’m really thrilled to get this opportunity to join Eggleston Motorsport next year,” says Owen. “Rachael and Ben Eggleston have built such a great team and great environment in which young drivers can learn and develop their skills in a Supercar.
“My full focus is on becoming a Supercars Championship driver in the future and there’s no better team to be with.
“I’ve got a great group of supporters behind me and my family have worked really hard to help get me into this position and pursue this.
“Having my next career step locked into place now is really satisfying, so I can put all of my energy into the last two rounds of the GR Cup at Bathurst and the Gold Coast.
“At the same time, I’ll spend time around the Eggleston team at Bathurst and the last Dunlop Series round in Adelaide to soak up as much as I can ahead of next season.”
Owen is the latest in a long line of young drivers to get an opportunity to move into the Dunlop Series with Eggleston Motorsport.
Both the current Repco Supercars Championship points leader Will Brown and current Dunlop Series leader, and reigning champion, Kai Allen, started their Supercars careers with the Melbourne-based team.
Eggleston Motorsport won the Dunlop Series in 2014 with Paul Dumbrell and again last year with Allen.
