James Courtney has been disqualified from Saturday's second Boost Mobile Qualifying session in Melbourne over a technical breach.

The 2010 champion's Blanchard Racing Team Mustang failed a post-session technical inspection after Saturday’s dual sessions.

Courtney had set the 20th fastest time in the eight-minute Race 7 session, just minutes after qualifying 23rd for Race 6.

However, according to a stewards report, the rear wing angle on the #7 Snowy River Caravans Mustang was found to be 10.2 degrees, 0.2 degrees above the maximum permitted.

The report reads:

The [team] representative advised the team had made a change to the rear wing angle prior to the first qualifying session (Race 6) to 9.5 degrees.

Then another adjustment to the rear wing was made prior to the commencement of the second qualifying session (Race 7) by lifting the rear wing one notch higher prior, noting the team didn’t have time to check the angle.

It comes on a weekend Courtney was a non-starter in Thursday’s race after a crash in Practice 2. Courtney crashed at the high-speed Turn 5, and missed both qualifying sessions.

Courtney raced from 24th to 17th on Friday afternoon, with rookie teammate Aaron Cameron 22nd and 19th amid pain management of a broken toe.

Race 6 will commence on Saturday evening at 5:40pm local time.
