Triple Eight Supercar to go head-to-head with stunt plane
Will Brown to star in a car versus plane race with Matt Hall
Races to take place at Avalon Australian International Airshow
Supercars champion Will Brown is set to go head-to-head with Matt Hall in a series of car versus plane races this week.
Brown, who took the lead of the drivers’ championship at the last round in Melbourne, will be a headline feature at this year’s Avalon Australian International Airshow.
Brown and fellow Red Bull-backed athlete Hall will race across the three-day event on March 28-30.
Hall is a retired Royal Australian Air Force pilot turned stunt star, was a star of the Red Bull Air Race World Championships, taking seven wins.
He is also no stranger to Supercars circles, completing stunts at events over the years, and also flying onto Bathurst’s Mountain Straight in 2021 as part of Jamie Whincup’s retirement celebrations.
Hall will fly his MXS-R aerobatic aircraft, powered by a 330hp engine, against Brown’s Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet Camaro Supercar.
“I’m excited to be a part of the Avalon Air show this year,” said Brown, who is also a pilot.
“After getting my pilot’s licence in 2018 I have always wanted to attend but it has clashed with Supercar commitments.
“Luckily this year I get to bring my Supercar, linking both my hobbies together in one exciting show.
“It will be tough to beat the greatest air race pilot our country has ever seen, but I’m willing to take on the challenge and I’m excited to see who takes out the win – bring it on.” Hall added:
“I did my first display at Avalon Australian International Airshow in 2007 and it just gets bigger and bigger. The 2025 program and ground activations are incredible.
"This year we are taking it to the next level by racing the reigning Supercar champion. Will Brown is the fastest man in Australia right now, so if anyone is going to put me to the test, it is him.”
Hall and Brown will tackle two practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, before contesting a race on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the event. See the schedule here.
Brown will resume his 2025 Repco Supercars Championship campaign in New Zealand next month. Tickets are on sale now.
