Tickford Racing struggle again in Melbourne SuperSprint qualifying
Championship leader Cam Waters to start 19th this afternoon
Thomas Randle fails to qualify inside the top 10 for all four races
Tickford Racing insists that all hope is not lost for the final two races of the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint after another disappointing qualifying display in Saturday morning's two Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions.
Cam Waters and Thomas Randle will both start well outside the top 10 for Race 6 this afternoon, with Randle more than eight tenths off Broc Feeney's pole time in 13th.
It's even more of a tale of woe for championship leader Waters, who will start back in 19th after setting a time that was over a second slower than Feeney.
Race 8 qualifying was much improved for Waters, who will line up in fifth for the finale tomorrow morning, whilst Randle could only muster 12th, his best qualifying result of the weekend.
Waters entered the weekend with a 50-point margin over Will Brown in the standings, however the gap has been whittled down to just 31 points at the halfway point of the weekend.
However, Waters has form when it comes to charging through the field this weekend, having stormed from 22nd to sixth in the opening race on Thursday to limit the damage to his points lead.
Randle also leapt forward on Thursday, charging from 21st to eighth, however could only finish in 20th yesterday as Waters qualified and finished in sixth.
However, Tickford CEO Simon Brookhouse isn't concerned by their one lap struggles this weekend, and believes that his two cars can move forward once again in this afternoon's 19-lap sprint.
"I think we've just got to be confident," Brookhouse said.
"We've got a fast race car and the boys will go really hard, so things didn't quite work out for us there, but we'll bounce back in the next eight minutes and we'll see how we go for Sunday as well.
"We're confident, Cam is driving really well, and Thomas can drive through the field, the race car is quick so we'll have a crack at it later on today.
"The mood is pretty calm, the boys are very calm. They've got a couple of little problems they're trying to sort out to try and be quicker, but the reality is there's no point panicking.
"We showed on Thursday that we can get through the field and we can do it again today and tomorrow."
Race 6 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will begin at 5:40pm this afternoon.
